Ford Cruises Into Fast Lane Choosing World’s Fastest POS Terminal – VeriFone’s Omni 3750

VeriFone Inc., the worldwide leader in
electronic payment solutions, today announced that over 4,600 Ford and
Lincoln-Mercury dealerships will be using VeriFone’s Omni 3750 payment
terminals for its Fordstar Charge and Check Services Program. The VeriFone
terminals communicate to Dallas-based Paymentech for processing via a
broadband connection, delivering secure SSL-protected transactions in four
seconds.
Under the Fordstar program, consumers are using the VeriFone 3750 to
pay for auto repairs, parts and service, and to make down payments on
vehicles. Customers have a choice of using credit, debit or fleet cards.
Additionally, the Omni 3750 is used for processing checks through Certegy
Inc.’s check-guarantee program. The terminal will
also support a gift card
application, should Ford introduce a program in the future.
A primary reason Ford chose VeriFone’s Omni 3750 was the modular
design of the terminal, allowing different communications modules to be
“swapped”, depending on the communications needs of the individual
dealership. Ford is in the process of migrating its dealers from dial-up
modems to faster Internet Protocol (IP) systems; the ability for the POS
terminal to adapt to these changes without having to be replaced is key.
The Omni 3750 processes transactions in 2-4 seconds, the fastest in
the industry Additionally, the terminals at Ford are the first terminals
deployed in the United States utilizing Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security
protocols. SSL provides the highest level of security for financial
transactions over the Internet, ensuring Ford customers that their
transactions are fast and secure.

(3DES) PIN security. In addition, the Omni 3750′s ergonomic design saves
counter space at Ford dealerships, and can be easily handed over to
customers for PIN input. The “clam shell” printer features trouble-free,
“drop-in” paper loading to virtually eliminate paper jams.
The VeriFone Omni 3750 has now been certified by all of the leading
U.S. processors, supports solutions from 16 value-added application
providers, and is shipping to
merchants through existing acquirer and ISO
channels.
